Fazendo o…

Reykjavík, Blue Lagoon e arredores: Arranca a roadtrip

    5 June, 2019 /

🇬🇧 It might just be that the meaning of life 🇬🇧 It might just be that the meaning of life is hard, sweaty hikes with unreal views at the top.
.
🇬🇧 A humble house with the best view in the 🇬🇧 A humble house with the best view in the world. This place made me think. You are looking at the only window of a house that has nothing but a wardrobe and a couple of rugs on the floor. How many of us wouldn't immediately say "I'd kill for a view like that". But what does having that view actually entail? This house is one of few, in a village only accessible by boat, where 50 people live. They live of what the sea gives them and a couple other ingredients coming from the nearest town, about one hour away. It's extremely remote, there's no running water or any of the other comforts we take for granted. To get phone signal you need to walk for hours. However, I saw things here that make me think "where did we go wrong?". In the West we created a world of wealth where happiness is defined by how many things you own. We destroyed a lot of our nature, we many times ignore the nature we still have and somehow subscribed to a way of living that locks us in offices for over a third of our lives. Our children spend more time indoors than prisoners. In Shoab, kids play around with improvised boats and paddles made of flip flops. In those years they are absolutely free and one with nature. I don't think it's completely utopic to find a way of living that is a middle ground. I am a big advocate for a system that gives you free education, health, security and, for those who need it, housing and so on. But couldn't we all be a bit happier if we were a bit more free, even a bit more wild?

🇬🇧 Let me introduce you to the perfect Drago 🇬🇧 Let me introduce you to the perfect Dragon Blood Tree 😍 I wasn't meant to look so in love with this tree but here we are! There's a legend in Socotra (i don't know if this is a thing to tell tourists 😅) that the first Dragon Blood Tree was born after a fight between and elephant and a dragon. The dragon was hurt and died and from its blood the tree was born. I'm not sure what's more unrealistic, that dragons exist or that in a fight between and elephant and a dragon, the elephant wins 🙄 anyway! Who wouldn't fall in love with this exotic beauty? ❤️

🇬🇧 This picture represents how I feel about 🇬🇧 This picture represents how I feel about my days in Socotra. Floating away in a dream of unbelievable landscapes, beautiful people and "first times". That quote "when was the last time you did something for the first time?" applies so well to this island. From washing clothes with goats staring at you to sleeping in a forest of Dragon Blood Trees there's a new experience everyday, sometimes even every hour. Welcome to Socotra!

Bem-vindos a Socotra!

🇬🇧The past months, especially the past week, 🇬🇧The past months, especially the past week, have been quite eventful despite the lack of posting. Here's what's been going on:

🚐 I bought a van! Say "hi" to Franga. The idea is to convert it into a small campervan and use it to travel around the UK and Europe. For those who know me for many years, you know this is a big thing for me! I've always been a bit afraid of driving and I could count with my fingers the number of times I've done it since I got my driver's license ten years ago... But with the help of some friends I'm back on the road in great style! 🐔

🏡 I moved houses and had to say goodbye to @labalo my housemate of 2.5 years. Together we went through two years of pandemic, all the Harry Potter movies, plenty of trash TV, endless amounts of pizza and wine bottles. We closed the door of 61 Douglas Place for the final time, a house that saw parties, job changes, laughter, tears, break ups, make ups and so much more.

🌐 My travel blog went through a makeover! There's still a lot I want to improve (especially the speed, sorry about that) but I'm really happy with the final result, so I invite you to go take a look (it's in Portuguese, but who doesn't love Google translate?!). I also discovered I was nominated for "Revelation Blog" in Portugal, alongside just another blog, which was pretty cool! You can find it at mudancasconstantes.com

💃I went out to a club for the first time since the pandemic (and now I can't stop!). I got to dance again with my lifelong friends and made some new friends along the way.

🇾🇪 Finally, last week I was living one of the best adventures of my life, in the island of Socotra. I'm still trying to digest everything I saw, learned and lived, but in the upcoming weeks I will start sharing more about this very unique place.

I'm going to try to make this page bilingual with English and Portuguese captions 😊

Middle Eastern cities can often be chaotic and a b Middle Eastern cities can often be chaotic and a bit intimidating. Amman is messy and noisy just as you'd expect, but it also has soul. For a city that barely existed 50 years ago, you will find little gems like roman ruins, street art and lively food markets. Ended up meeting lovely people in a hostel, going out for a spontaneous dinner and discovering a great rooftop bar that could belong to any hipster European city. These are the last photos of Jordan ❤️ it's honestly a very easy country to travel. If you manage to get your own car it's absolutely amazing, if you don't you should still go! It was one of those trips where every single day was a highlight, so I can definitely recommend :)
